In chapter 9 of TKAM we’ve learnt that atticus will take a trial of a black male that has a case on potential rape on a white female. Maycomb is a racist society and most civilians are against black people. Atticus knows if he takes this case, it won’t only affect the suspect, but it will affect atticus and his family aswell. Atticus confronts scout and Jem and lets them know what has happened and how it’d affect them. Scout takes her fathers advice to mind and the following day she’s confronted by another class member challenging her fathers authority. The class member says, “My folks said Your daddy is was a disgrace an that nigger oughta hang from the water-tank!”. This obviously angered scout and scout was about to explode until her fathers words came through her mind and she knew she should let it go for her fathers sake.
