It was a beautiful Saturday evening when it all hit me. The heat, the smell and the atmosphere. I took no notice, but before I knew it, I was engulfed by smoke and heat. The smell of dusty burnt wood rushed up against my nostrils. My sight began to lose focus, the increase of flames made it seem as if the building was going to collapse on me. I panicked. With all thoughts coming and going through my head I managed to catch one. My grandfather.

I began to hear sirens approaching but I knew it would be useless by the time they arrive. The whole back of the house was already demolished into a mixture of ash and burnt materials. I realized if I didn’t pick up the pace, me and my Granddad would soon be a part of that rubble. I then heard movement in the attic which was half eaten by fire which suddenly made me assume it was my Granddad. So I had to head for the attic.

As soon as I ran for the attic, it was too late. The roof floor boards above me collapsed. I tried to fight my way through all the ruins and scorching hot fire to reach my very own grandfather that meant the world to me, but I just couldn’t get through. I still couldn’t understand how this was caused and was mind blown in the big event that just took place.

I thought I was too late to save my grandfather so I had to save myself, I made my way to my bedroom window as the front door was surrounded by fire. As soon as I was about to leap off the window I heard the scream of  my beloved granddad, “HELP HARLEY HELP!”. I had a sudden feeling of hope. I leapt back in and called out to my granddad, “WHERE ARE YOU GRANDDAD!?!”. I heard no answer. I made my way for the basement where I heard his voice but at this time, the house was a wrecked titanic look alike engulfed in fire. As soon as I opened the door to the basement I was taken off my feet and taken into a world full of darkness.

I lost all vision and balance causing my unconscious body to fall down the basement stairs. I felt no pain at that point. I wasn’t aware of anything. I had no clue of my surroundings. I remember seeing certain glimpses of lights and sirens. That’s all I could remember.

My mother Carol says I was 2nd degree burnt. She told me she thought she lost me. Whilst I was on the hospital bed I slowly became aware of noises. I began to hear again. I tried to open my eyes with great strength but they wouldn’t open. I was confused and scared. I tried calling out for help but I wasn’t able to move a muscle. I felt trapped inside my very own body. I felt alone. I was in a coma…
